Protecting the Valley Walk in Sudbury is essential from Tory spending cuts at Suffolk CC. I proposed that Sudbury Town Council register an interest in the Valley Walk so that it can be kept open, managed and protected. It is a jewel to the Town and must be maintained.
Saving Sudbury Tourist Information Centre from possible cuts and the Town Council will be paid a management fee to run it for Babergh. When Mayor in 2002/03 I opened the TIC and got the Heritage Centre next door through committees. It is an excellent service to Sudbury and recently, yet again, scored top marks for its customer service. As a member of the Budget committee at Babergh, I was able to argue for its retention and the importance of it.
Update: The TIC has been re-located to the Library. We plan to expand the heritage centre & museum into the TIC building at the Town Hall.
Lib Dem councillors keep in touch. Regular surgeries for members of the public have been held at the Town Hall on a Saturday morning throughout the Summer, Autumn and Spring. We have also held public meetings in Ballingdon at All Saints Church Hall, this year and last.
Chairing the Safer Neighbourhood Team meeting between residents and the local Police every month is a huge reward. The meeting sets the priorities locally and feedbacks to residents the work done by the Police over the past month on tackling those priorities. Over the last month, priorities have covered Francis Rd/Station Rd, Gaol Lane, criminal damage on routes out of the Town centre, Church St/Friars St traffic/road safety and purse thefts in the Town centre.
