Sudbury Upper School will become a sponsored academy in September and it would seem that the private company who will run the school will be given the freehold.
This could mean that services such as the dual use sports centre at the Upper school which allows public access to the sports hall, gym, squash and badminton courts could be restricted or even lost. It seems Suffolk CC cannot give any guarantees at present. It is unclear whether they can set up a legal agreement to guarantee such access and services.
This will be an issue I will be investigating in the next few weeks and will update as soon as I have more information.
Update: On the 19th march the Chair of Governors states that it is hoped that the Sports Centre will continue as the status quo IF money allows! Apparently, there will be a consultation on the formation of the Academy after Easter. Please respond to it.Leave a comment
